I am now living in Darwin and have resumed hosting - previous references are all NZ.
We are Marijke and Ben. I am a health practitioner who works online from home as well as in clinic, and Ben is FIFO (fly in fly out on fortnightly rotation) from WA. I prefer guests to not be at the house during work hours.
We have both lived internationally, travel/work in Asia a few times a year, and are interstate a fair bit. We love to host when at home, as some of our loveliest travel experiences have happened when we have stayed with locals ourselves.
We have a parrot named Rosie who will sing and chatter to you. She is free flighted but out of respect will be contained for your visit
or outside in the garden and will not get in your way. She does love people, especially bearded ones, but I ask you to please not poke fingers in her cage. It's her private space and she doesn't know you.
I am happy to cook an evening meal for you by arrangement for a small fee, and can easily cater to food intolerances (In NZ I used to own/run a vegetarian cafe).
We look forward to welcoming you to our home. Our only request is that you treat it as one.

About the Area
Wanguri is a safe, quiet suburb north of the CBD. It's a short walk to Casuarina mall, a 5 minute drive to Royal Darwin Hospital, and 5kms to the airport.
A mosque is a short walk away.
There is secure off street parking, and buses stop nearby.
Casuarina Beach is close for wonderful sunsets and lovely walking tracks through the reserve with an abundance of things to see depending on the season. De La Plage cafe at the surf club does good food, coffee, and entertainment through the Dry, and shortened hours in the Wet, right on the shoreline.
Darwin itself has never-ending entertainment during the Dry Season, but the Wet is my personal favourite as it looks so much more beautiful when everything is lush and green.
Nothing is far, and the weekend markets are an attraction in their own right.
Whether you're here for work or simply a quick break, you can be as busy or as quiet as you choose.

Marijke has just an awesome property and house and I felt very welcome and comfortable with her, although we didn't spend a long time together. My room was cosy, clean and all was there what I needed. I can totally recommend Marijke as a host and would like to come everytime again! Thank you Marijke for your wonderful hospitality!

We had a wonderful time in Marijke’s nice cozy house. It is comfortable and clean, she was very welcoming and easy to live with. We had lots of chats with her and her parrot, Rosie. Their company is so enjoyable ! We hold a great memory of our stay in Darwin, thanks to her.

Marijke has a lovely and rustic homestay on a beautiful location. She is a very welcoming person who is really busy in this season (December). The toilet and bathroom are outside, the bed is very comfy.
We are so glad we had the chance to stay here.October 2016
Loved staying with Marijke, she made us feel so at home. We woke every morning to a lovely breakfast and at the end of the day we relaxed in front of the fire enjoying great conversations with our host. Thanks Marijke for being such a fantastic host.

Marijke looked after us very well. Her home was very warm and she and house mates very friendly. Pru (the cat) very friendly and will enjoy all the time you have to stroke and cuddle her. All in all a very good 2 nights. Well recommended.
How do I book?
Contact the host to check their availability and ask them any questions you have about staying with them. Once the host confirms they’re available for your dates, you can complete your booking.
When do I pay?
Once a host confirms they're available, you can go ahead and pay the 15% booking fee (maximum of 250 $£€ for longer term bookings) using a choice of payment methods: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro, Laser, JCB & PayPal (not available in certain countries). You then pay your host on arrival or as stated by your host on their profile and agreed by you on booking. Please be cautious if a host requests advance payment if its not included on their profile. Our hosts have been advised that if they wish to request advance payment they must make this explicit in their profile. We do not recommend the use of Money gram or Western Union.
When can I share my contact details?
Host and Guest email address, phone number and home address will be exchanged in a confirmation email sent to both immediately after a booking is completed. It's against our policy for Guests and Hosts to exchange direct contact details via our messaging system.
