About the Area

The atmosphere is amped up by the students at Camberwell College of Art, who spill onto a high street that weaves its way past a global mishmash of restaurants, churches hosting jazz in their crypts and parks that come to life with Carribean music in the summer. Rivalling Peckham's foodie scene, this London neighbourhood has an ever-growing number of restaurants and bars. Artists, musicians, politicians and actors call the area home. All are greeted by Battersea Power Station architect Sir Giles Gilbert Scott’s imposing Thirties building for the Salvation Army at Denmark Hill station, which towers over Camberwell in the gothic-modern style he’s famous for. From splendid structures to laid-back eating and drinking spots, here’s where to go and what to see in this scenic slither of London
