Immerse yourself in the culture of the country you are travelling to

Tell us about your homestay experience.

A homestay has many more benefits than just renting a place just for yourself. It helps you to really immerse yourself in the culture of the country you are travelling to. It gives you access to a source of information that you might not be able to find anywhere else. The family I lived with gave many advice and recommandations I wouldn’t have gotten if didn’t chose this type of accommodation. I truly think that for a long stay, it enhances your travel experience.

What did you do in Seoul?

The place I stayed didn’t have much stuff to see but it had subway station which allowed me to go any here I wanted. I went to every palaces in Seoul and I tried to visit every museums. I was really surprise by the amount of shops selling coffee, i didn’t expect Koreans to be so fond of that beverage.

Any tips or advice for other travellers?

My top tip would be use your feet as much as you can. Seoul has an amazing transport system but if you only rely on it to explore the city you would miss a lot “hidden gems”. That’s how I discovered some of the best restaurants I ate in or some place like the Naksam park or Gwanjam Market. These places really made an impression on me.

How was your experience with your host?

My experience was amazing. I learned about various aspect of the culture, i was able to get information on places that foreigners don’t usually visit or dishes I must really try. It was truly helpful for my trip. Everyday they would ask me where I went, what I liked and what I potentially missed. My trip would have been much worse without my host.
