I live in a section of a converted Devon Longhouse on a large estate comprising of 1000+ acres. You approach the property up a long public lane about 1 mile from the village of Ide.
The water is our own spring water.
At night, its dark enough to see the stars and peaceful.
The lane has been resurfaced so is smooth....
The property is 1 mile from the local village of Ide and 3 1/2 miles from the main City of Exeter.
There is no public transport to the cottage, so I recommend you have access to a car when you stay here. The village of Ide has a bus service but not frequently, and it is a mile to the village itself by foot.
Ide has a good shop and post office which is open every day(apart from the PO).
If you have a car it is easy to come and go. There are buses from the village of Ide into Exeter six times a day. It is a 20 minute walk from the cottage to the village.
There is a lovely garden which has a view across to Exeter itself.
I have a wonderful cat who lives here, Zsuzsa, spends most of her days and nights outside. She comes in for a sleep most days but likes to go out when it is not cold and hunt.
The sea is 20 minutes from the property at Teignmouth, 35 to Exmouth and 40 to Sidmouth, by car. There is also the river Exe which provides some walks in the city of Exeter.

About the Area
The house is located on the west of Exeter a 20 minute walk from the local village of Ide, the nearest suburbs of Exeter being Alphington and St Thomas about 2-4 miles away. Having a car is helpful if you intend to come and go while you stay here.
Ide itself has 2 lovely pubs which both serve food and a community store that sells everything you will need. There is a Sainsbury store about 2 miles to the east.
A 20 minute bus ride from Ide to Exeter will provide all the facilities that could be desired.
Closer than the main city are smaller suburbs with eating and shopping facilities.
The countryside and cycling are a stones throw away.

When one looks for this address on Google Maps one can easily come to the conclusion that this property is in the middle of nowhere. It is wrong because one can get to the house easily. It is true that one must travel by car. It is a detached house on a farm and if you like rural life and a big bed it must be your destination. The landlady is a multifaceted artistic talent: she does nice pottery and drawing, plays music, ... and practices yoga and certain areas of psychology. Talking with her is very interesting. If you like unusual stays with homestay.com families you must choose this one.

Lovely host. It is a very narrow lane to get to the house. But everybody who goes there remember you are in the country side so you do expect narrow and bumpy roads.

Such a lovely welcoming lady, a bit of a lane to go up but well worth it. My room had a bird table outside the window and I spent much time relaxing and watching the birds.

Kat was a very charming host , made our stay with her very comfortable, the only problem the lane to get to her house was very narrow and the hedges on both sides need trimming.

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Kat. We had a warm welcome and were made to feel at home. Kat's home is bright, colourful, cheerful and interesting. The room was very clean and bright and the bed very comfortable.

I can completely, without reservation recommend a stay with Kat. My 2 night stay provided an unexpected lift for my spiritual, mental and physical well being. Nothing was too much trouble, I felt extremely welcome.
My single room was bright, comfortable with lovely view.
The garden was self contained and my dog was well catered for.
I would pay double the price to stay and will definately return.Host reply
