Wonderful, welcoming hosts! Miguel kindly met us at the bus, and he and his daughter, Yansi, helped us organize tours (horseback riding and caves) and activities. The food was delicious! Miguel is a teacher and is very engaged with the community, offering workshops about plants and their uses and agriculture and sustainability. He is passionate about permaculture and natural medicine and we learned a lot of interesting things and really enjoyed our discussions with him. His daughter, Yansi, and the rest of the family are lovely and our eight-year-old daughter enjoyed interacting with Miguel’s granddaughters. It was a meaningful and unforgettable experience that gave us a deeper perspective on life in Cuba.

El día que llegamos nos prepararon un almuerzo delicioso con diferente comida cubana, y las dos mañanas que desayunamos en la casa estaba todo muy rico también. Nos sentimos super bien acogidas con ellos. Nos ayudaron a organizar las actividades que realizamos estando en Viñales (excursión a caballo por el Valle del Silencio, en coche a Cayo Jutías, así como el traslado hasta Cienfuegos). Dar las gracias en especial a Yansy. Esperamos volver a veros algún día! Un abrazo.

My friend Nina and I spent 4 unforgettable days with Miguel and his wonderful family. We loved the time with these lovely people, they were so welcoming and warm-hearted, we really felt like home and would have loved to stay even longer.
We had a lot of space for ourselves and on the beautiful terrace we could enjoy the sun and relax in the comfortable rocking chairs.

For breakfast and dinner, Yansi and her Mum prepared us amazingly delicious, fresh food - we enjoyed every single meal! Miguel took us to his farm in which he grows many different plants, fruits and vegetables and he shared all his interesting knowledge about agriculture and medical plants. It felt really magical to be there!

It was truly a blessing to be with this family and we can only recommend you to take every chance and stay with them for a while. Muchisimas gracias Miguel y familia por este tiempo inolvidable, os queremos mucho!

A real pleasure for us to stay with Miguel and his family. We stayed two nights in two rooms (one room one-mins walk away), both with aircon, both with onsuite bathrooms and showers, and his daughter (?) Yangtzee (sure I got spelling wrong) cooked dinner for us and made breakfast each day (at this time, dinner about EUR 8 pp and breakfast about Eur 5pp). This is real Vinales and the real people, plus dogs, chickens, pigs, and occasional power cuts. My two daugthers (5 and 13) played with his two daughters (similar ages) while we relaxed over a beer and a cigar. The rooms were separated by doors from their main house, and were private, where we could lock ourselves off at night, although we never felt the need to.
You need to travel down the East of the street (I mean turn right off the main drag), then turn right after Cuba Taxi, and go on a rough road about 200m where you'll see a small sign (El Permacultor) on their wall, a green and white Casa. BYO beer and cigars. Beer for purchase 500m walk away from a 'restaurant', they charged me USD (=EUR here) 3 per 330ml can. Still, they were cold and I felt in need! (and Vinales is charging tourist prices unfortunately...). Casa has fridges in both rooms.
Make sure to visit Los Jazmines hotel (buy a drink or two) and enjoy the view. The best in all of Vinales. Pool green at the moment due lack of chemicals availability.

Miguel and Yancy are very welcoming hosts and super helpful - Yancy organised all the tours we needed (horse back riding, to Cayo jutia beach, and around Viñales to see the caves) and I would recommend every single one of them, Miguel's passion for permaculture and sustainability shines through and his tour of his farm and the garden he is creating near the house were highlights of our stay in Cuba. This is a really special little place and we're so glad we came.
