The property is a unique Italianate Gothic town house dating from 1860 - Unique because we are fortunate to have the whole house (4 floors). Stylish as have spent the past 5 years sympathetically restoring it to a comfortable and elegant home.

the property is on the corner of Maple Road with excellent restaurants, bars and a microbrewery. We have a park just a minute away. The high street for shops are a couple of minutes away. There are 11 bus routes nearly including to Kingston for the sights and university. The station is 4 minutes walk for a fast train (20 mins) to Waterloo.

House Rules

We try to reserve a private bathroom for guests if possible as we have 3 bathrooms and a cloakroom as expected for a house of this quality. If not the facilities are checked regularly and kept safe. You will be expected to show evidence of a lateral flow test plus a copy of photo id before arrival.

A kitchen and kitchenette is available to all guests to prepare light meals. It is a guest preference that the kitchen is not blocked by the preparation of elaborate meals especially those with strong smells or frying.

Payment Method: Please note that we require our guests to pay 50% of the booking total to us in advance of the booking to hold your room (on top of the 15% service fee paid to Homestay.com)
Cancellation Policy: We ask our guests to give us at least 10 days’ notice for any cancellation. Any cancellation later than this will not be refunded.”

    The room was large. All standard furniture were available. The bed was wide and comfortable
    The bathroom upstairs was more convienent as the one on the lower floor.
    The check-in and check-out were easy and Lesley was very helpful.

    It was a horrible experience due to many reasons. First, in detail it was written that I can use kitchen but as soon as I came in she told me I can only use microwave to heat prepared meals which shows that she is not honest.
    Second, she did renovation on stairs on weekend at 8 o'clock in the morning with a huge amount of noise when I was asleep and she told me that I have to use garden gate for 3 days until the painting on steps will be dried and Monday morning when I wanted to go out for my work I could not open the garden gate because it was locked from outside so I called her and she reacted really bad and told me "why are you calling me at 7 a.m. and I was asleep" which shows that she does not have any responsibility regarding her guests and that day I arrived late at my work which was really bad for me.
    Third, I was sharing toilet with another person in a room next to me who did not flush toilet couple of times and when I told her she told me here is not a hotel and many people do not flush toilets in airbnb but I am doing my best and I cleaned the toilet!!!
    Forth, I asked her to turn on radiator in my room because My room was so cold at nights and she told me I should pay extra for heater while in my present accommodation I can turn on the radiator without extra cost and even for washing machine she told me in which option (only echo)I should wash my clothes and give her £4 for each time!! Which is again free in my present accommodation.
    Totally, it was such a horrible experience which I do not recommend this place to anyone else.

    Mahsa stayed 14 nights in a huge elegant room in a beautiful unique 1860 town house and yet choses to use the review process to cause offence and mislead. She has recourse to Homestay or myself if it was terrible and could stay elsewhere if complaints are upheld. It is to be noted that we have regular guests via other websites who are aware of what a homeshare means. We have had guests all year round since the inception in 2016 most are lovely and stay long term. Firstly our 4 bathrooms are shared. Mahsa chose to use 1 where unfortunately she found it unflushed on one occasion. She admits that she was only sharing with 1 other person and could have had a quiet word. She simply flushed it and I stepped up my patrols of all the bathrooms. It did not happen again. I think it is petty to mention this in a review as sometimes but rarely other guests make a mistake. They can let me know and there are multiple bathrooms. Mahsa's fuss simply humiliated the other guest and made him uncomfortable. Mahsa did no cleaning of the property unless it was after herself. Mahsa prepared all her meals in the house without problem but I had to ask her not to fry fatty mince as guest dont like the smells and meat fat pervading their kitchen. We think this is a reasonable adaption for a short term guest. It says so on the listing and Mahsa was told in advance but still bought beef mince. The maintenance referred to is a repair to a front path. This was done quietly at 8.30 by a single workman with no power tools and completed that morning. Sadly another 5 star review guest walked on the path despite signage hence it took 3 days to dry during which all guests entered and exited via the garden. On the night before (the bank holiday) I was cleaning until midnight at Mahsa's behest. I was then woken at 7am with Mahsa saying the gate was locked. This was not possible but Mahsa was in a panic and angry with me. However she did manage to open the gate. There was no sorry from her. Whilst I am sorry she was late for her course Mahsa chose to travel by bus instead of the faster train and tube in order to save money. I would have gladly refunded the difference to get her their on time. Mahsa arrived during late May and hot weather immediately asked me to "turn the heater on". I explained that the use of central heating would make us all uncomfortable and offered a space heater at the cost of the electricity as no one else wanted or needed heat. She declined and adapted to the house. We do not waste energy as a deliberate green policy.
    Mahsa was charged £4 for a washload which is very low compared to the local launderette. She also expected me to hang out and take in her washing for this. Mahsa instead choose for the rest of her stay to hand wash her clothes, inconveniencing others and hanging them so that they dripped on the original wooden floors of the room. This was very upsetting but Mahsa chose to save money at any opportunity. It is the hosts duty to be fair. The room rate is extreme value for money. If guests chose to require extra services it is fair that they cover the cost of these. I cant comment on her current accommodation and what they include or not in the room price.

    The location is good. 5 minutes walking from Surbiton Station. There are bar and supermarkets. Lesley was nice. The house is nice and clean.

    At first, as I never lived in home stay before, there is some unhappiness occurred between the host n I, but after we,ve reconciled with each other, I thought we could get along in good term with each other
    n avoid any hiccup in the future !

    It is testimony to my patience and the quality of the property that the rating is 4 star after the guests were asked to leave. The guests expected the services of a luxury hotel (with kitchen provided) and not a home stay. There was damage that has been replaced and all issues resolved - I wish Mr and Mrs Chan well.

    The location is amazing with great transport links and amazing food places! I even found a gym within a stone row away from the house that I could use while staying briefly! Lesley was always on hand to help when issues arose such as the water being cold. She does offer value for money. The house is grand with beautiful pieces of art.

    Good location
    Very helpful and caring host.
    Bedroom clean and warm,
    Very comfortable bed.

How do I book?

Contact the host to check their availability and ask them any questions you have about staying with them. Once the host confirms they’re available for your dates, you can complete your booking.

When do I pay?

Once a host confirms they're available, you can go ahead and pay the 15% booking fee (maximum of 250 $£€ for longer term bookings) using a choice of payment methods: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro, Laser, JCB & PayPal (not available in certain countries). You then pay your host on arrival or as stated by your host on their profile and agreed by you on booking. Please be cautious if a host requests advance payment if its not included on their profile. Our hosts have been advised that if they wish to request advance payment they must make this explicit in their profile. We do not recommend the use of Money gram or Western Union.

When can I share my contact details?

Host and Guest email address, phone number and home address will be exchanged in a confirmation email sent to both immediately after a booking is completed. It's against our policy for Guests and Hosts to exchange direct contact details via our messaging system.
