We are herbalists, nature lovers, foddies, gardeners, book addicts and sporty family living in a two-story family house the village Plave, in the river Soča valley. Both children (Vesna and Matej) moved away but they are very often visiting their parents. Vesna is a perfect guide to show you around (wine region of Goriska brda, fruity Vipava valley, adrenaline Soca valley, laid-back Trnovo and Banjsice plateau, untouched Baska ravine, UNESCO Idria heritage) so as she also organizes different hands-on activities where you can make herbal pillows, herbal blends and lavender bags.
The whole second floor of the Herbal house is for our guests. Here there are 2 charming scented herbal rooms with a bathroom. Both herbal rooms have a view on our colourful vegetable and herbal garden. At the same time maximum 5 people can stay in the Herbal Rooms Homestay. Our guests sleep on herbal pillows that relax their body and soul. Real aromatherapy for all your sences.
In the first floor Karmen and Ivan are staying. Here you will find a welcoming living-room, fully equipped kitchen and wood-burning stove.

About the Area
Our Herbal Rooms Homestay is located in the village Plave which lies 12 kilometres north of Nova Gorica, the biggest city of Goriska region. The village is well connected with public transport (trains, buses). The train and bus stations are 2 kilometres away. We can pick you up from the train/bus station. Please let us know in advance about your arrival. There is also a very well maintained walking and cycling route from Nova Gorica to Plave.
In our tiny village Plave with only 200 inhabitants, you will find church, very famous trout restaurant and lots of craftsmen making amazing craft products (wood, crocheting, natural cosmetics, honey). The village played an important role in WW1 and very famous world known author Ernest Hemingway mentioned Plave in his book „A Farewell to Arms“. The village itself lies on the best location. Why? Because it is based on the crossroads between emerald Soca valley, Goriska Brda wine region and laid-back Banjsice and Trnovo plateau. Here the Mediterranean climate meets the Alpine climate. The local area offers unique off the beaten track opportunities for exploring, small local festivals, almost untouched bunkers from WW1, tasting local artisanal food and wide range of hands-on activities with locals.

We loved our stay in Herbal Rooms. Vesna is a great host and took care of all our requirements. She helped us plan our itinerary and served us with homemade herbal tea and jams. Very neat and clean room with a balcony overlooking the Herbal garden, beds were very comfortable and an overall a very good location to stay if you want a relaxed home environment then this one's for you. Plave is a very beautiful village right on the bank of Soca river. Would highly recommend a stay for a few days at herbal rooms incase you plan to visit Slovenia and don't forget to shop their homegrown green tea's... Deeksha xx
June 2015
Vesna and Robbi met me at train station in Ljublana and brought me to Plave at the Herbal Rooms, where Vesna's parents Karmen and Ivan live. From the very beginning to the end, I felt welcome with Karmen and Ivan's extraordinary hospitality and willingess to share their life and be curious about my world. Vesna's passion and knowledge about her native region, plants and herbs is infectious. The hike to Soca River source and the gorge, the herb picking in the forest meadows, the meals, and most of all the laughter and aha moments were one too many to recount. The accomodation itself was dobra (super) and the aroma of herbs was pleasant yet not overpowering. It was an experience of Slovenian culture that merged into my life forever. In addition to the activities with Vesna, I also spent a few hours with Karmen making a lavender sachet. We communicated through our language of actions, gestures, and a few common words, and laughed too much, much later, when sharing our language mishaps and barriers. Karmen is a gem to be with, even if you don't speak Slovenian, which I didn't. Thank you Robbi, Karmen, Ivan and Vesna for a beautiful experience that lasted a short 5 days.
