HOMESTAY.COM WELCOMES REGULATION FOR SHORT-TERM LETTINGS

Homestay hosts permitted to rent out a room (or rooms) without restriction

October 25th 2018, Dublin, Ireland

Homestay.com welcomes Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy's regulation which finally differentiates between renting an entire home and renting a room in a primary residence. Over 1,000 people in Ireland currently list their spare room on Homestay.com. We don’t list entire homes.

Today’s announcement means that Homestay hosts will be allowed to let out rooms in their primary residence without restriction once they register with their local council. This clarity from the Government reinforces their support for “true homesharing”.

Homestays have existed for as long as people have traveled. The Homestay.com marketplace launched in 2013, has made it possible for individuals to offer consumers an alternative accommodation option and empower householders to utilize their asset to earn much needed extra income.

This regulation brings long awaited transparency to our hosts who can rest assured that once registered, they will be in compliance with local planning laws.
