About the Area

Our house is located right in front of the Iglesia Guadelupe and next to a park. There is a convenience store across the street, a large grocery store a few blocks away, and we are a mere 3-5 minute walk to the Central Plaza, Cathedral and Mercado. Once downtown there are endless options for restaurants and shopping. We are also near several of Leon's fabulous museums. We are also located on a main street so if you prefer to take a taxi that is very easy.

There is no curfew and we will provide you with a key so you may come and go as you wish. However, we do ask you please not bring anyone else home with you. Connie, Adela and Sofia were very welcoming to me. I was able to practise my Spanish with them and eat some delicious traditional Nicaraguan food. Would definitely recommend staying if you want to experience an authentic Nicaraguan home!

I couldn’t recommend this more highly - Conny, her mother, Adela, and Sophia made this (sadly too short) visit one of the highlights of my whole travels. They were incredibly kind and patient with my very rusty Spanish, answered all my many questions, and took me to see various things happening in Leon - the parade for San Jeronimo, and to the market to try dulces típicos. The food they cooked was delicious and they were incredibly flexible when my dates were unclear. I had a key so was also able to do my own thing as well as spend time with the family. I only wish I could have stayed longer!

Conny is a very friendly and helpful person.
She tries so hard to make you feel welcome and will involve you in the family's social events.
A homestay with Conny is also very good for your Spanish, she will take the time and explain things for you until you really understand.
    Overall a wonderful stay!

Conny and her family made great hosts, we really enjoyed our stay. She made some great “Nici” food and drinks for us to try and made us feel really welcome in her home. It made it an authentic homestay experience and we got to practice to some Spanish too!

I had a great time with Conny and her family! They were very welcoming and very patient with my poor Spanish. The room was comfortable and I loved getting to know Conny's 2 older daughters and her adorable grandchildren who also live in the house. The house is in a great location that is only a 5 minute walk to all the bars and things downtown in Leon. I would definitely stay with this family again next time I'm in Nicaragua!

Conny and her family were very friendly! I was expected and welcomed immediately. You get your own space and key and can come and go as you please. I stayed here for 3 weeks and I felt I could always talk to them if I wanted to. Since I worked at the hospital during my time here, I didn't spend a lot of time with the family, but when I did, they were great! And they try to speak really understandable Spanish, which was great to learn. The two grandchildren are also adorable!
I didn't have any problems with electrical shocks. It is true the neighbourhood is a bit noisy, but since I sleep with earplugs and had to get up early everyday, I didn't mind this. If there are any issues during your stay you can just ask the family for help, and they will gladly give it to you.

This was not the best host family I have stayed with, but it was still a good experience. Highlight was being invited to attend Conny's grandson's first birthday fiesta, and the location of the house is great. The downsides were the electrical plugs in the room (dangle from the walls, quite dangerous, I got three electric shocks from just plugging in my phone charger), the two pet parrots which are incredibly loud just outside the window between 5.00-7.00am, and being served corn chips and dip from the previous night's party for breakfast...

    Host reply
Homestay Host Family Conny in ,

Eve, we are sorry you feel this way. The pictures of the house are very accurate. We are not a rich Nicaraguan family but try to offer the best for our guests. If you'd communicated your discomfort with the electric outlets in your room we would have found a solution you were comfortable with. We've never experienced nor had any guest report any problems with electric shocks. We're very sorry this happened to you and will look into the issue. As for food, we typically serve our guests what we eat for breakfast, with all the party festivities during your stay we are sorry you feel your breakfast wasn't adequate one morning. We would have prepared you something else had you asked. As for the parrots, animals are somewhat unpredictable and we can't silence the pet parrots. The listing disclosed that we have pet parrots. That said, we would have tried to relocate them further away from you to make you more comfy. So again we wish you'd expressed this to us during your stay, instead of just waiting to write an unfairly negative review.
