We are an international family (Japanese/American) with 2 friendly and cheerful young kids, and we cannot wait to welcome you to stay with us in Tokyo. We are fully bilingual (English/Japanese), and we are happy to help you get your bearings in this fabulous but often overwhelming country.

We welcome visitors from around the world, and our home is especially perfect for musicians and bookworms!

YOUR ROOM

You will have a private bathroom with shower, toilet, bathtub, and sink. Your room comes equipped with a memory foam futon, heated carpet, built-in air conditioner/heater, small table, loft, and a small flatscreen TV with an Apple TV. Feel free to sign in with your own accounts.

There is no curfew, so feel free to come and go as you please. Your room is in its own wing of the house, so you do not need to worry about disturbing us late at night.

We have free unlimited WiFi throughout our house.

Our housekeeper will vacuum, dust and straighten your room once a week.

THE HOUSE

Our house was built as a designer model home by a Japanese architect and has been extensively renovated. With about 2000 square feet (180 sq meters) of living space, there is plenty of room to spread out.

The garden-level family room serves as a library and has a gas fireplace for cozy board game nights and curling up with a good book.

The mezzanine living/dining area is where the family spends most of our time, with a Yamaha C3X parlor grand piano, flatscreen television/Bluray player, and a carpeted area to spread out and stretch or do yoga.

The galley kitchen has a convection/microwave oven, IH stovetop, dishwasher, rice cooker, electric kettle, Nespresso machine, toaster oven, oversized refrigerator/freezer, and plenty of dishes and cookware.

During your stay, you will have full access to the kitchen, laundry (washer/dryer), extensive library of English and Japanese books and dictionaries, and printer/scanner.

MUSIC PRACTICE

You are welcome to play the grand piano as much as you like outside the children's practice hours. See House Rules for hours. We also have a Celviano electric piano in the family room. You are welcome to play this one as much as you like, too. It can be used with headphones, so you may play 24/7 at any time of day or night.

If you sing or play another instrument, you are welcome to practice as much as you like. We only ask that, if your instrument is loud enough to be heard outside your room, you refrain from playing at night so as not to disturb the neighbors.

The piano is in a room that has plenty of space for small ensembles to practice together. So please feel free to invite your friends for a daytime jam session.

FOOD ALLERGIES

We are a nut-free, chickpea-free home because our son has a severe peanut, tree nut, and chickpea allergy. You are not permitted to bring foods containing these ingredients into the house or cook with them in the kitchen. We thank you for your understanding.

If you have an allergy, you are most welcome to stay with us and we will do our best to keep you safe, help you read labels, etc.

About the Area

Our house is located on a private and quiet cul-de-sac, 4 minutes from Soshigaya-Okura Station on the Odakyu Line (which goes through to the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line).

NEIGHBORHOOD

Our neighborhood is in the leafy suburb of Setagaya west of central Tokyo. It was the birthplace of the beloved character Ultraman, and so the shopping district surrounding our station is called "Ultraman Street" and the train station plays the Ultraman theme song as the train pulls up to the platform.

Ultraman Street is just steps away and has dozens of shops and restaurants, a post office, restaurants, 100-yen shops, boutiques, clinics, bubble tea, cake & donut shops, bakeries, banks/ATMs, and more.

There are 3 supermarkets (Odakyu OX, My Basket, Ozeki) and many 24-hour convenience stores (Lawson, FamilyMart, 7-Eleven) within a 2- to 5-minute walk.

The Seijo Corty shopping mall is a 10-minute walk from the house. There, you will find a Starbucks, Dean & Deluca, Yamano Musical Instruments, a large bookstore, upscale restaurants, and many shops selling interior goods and clothing.

The Kyodo Corty shopping mall is two stops away on the train and has a Tully's Coffee, Loft, Muji, and more.

TRAIN ACCESS

Soshigaya-Okura Station on the Odakyu Line is just a 4-minute walk from our home, and from there you can get to the popular Shinjuku or Shibuya in about 20 minutes.

You can also stay onboard the train until it turns into the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line, which runs straight through the heart of Tokyo. From our train stop, you have no-transfer access to Omotesando/Harajuku and the Yamanote Line in under 20 minutes, Nogizaka/Roppongi in 25 minutes, and Hibiya/Otemachi/Tokyo Station in about 30 minutes. The semi-express stops at our station, so you can zip into Tokyo in no time.

House Rules

As long as you are respectful of our family life and our children, we invite you to make our house your own! Just a few simple rules:

1. Please keep your belongings in your private room and clean up after yourself when you use the kitchen or other common areas. (We are happy to store large suitcases and other unneeded items in the basement storage area so that you have more space to spread out in your room.)

2. Yamaha parlor grand piano is available between the hours of 8 AM and 8 PM (except when in use by the family). Celviano electric piano is available 24/7, with headphones required during nighttime quiet hours.

3. Feel free to borrow any of our books, cookbooks, sheet music, playing cards, board games, etc. But please put them back where you found them!

4. No pets or overnight guests. Friends are welcome to visit, but no parties because we have small children in the house.

5. No peanuts, tree nuts, or chickpeas allowed in the house or in your room. No cooking foods containing these ingredients is permitted in the kitchen. Thank you for helping us to keep our home a safe space for our severely allergic son.

6. There is no curfew, so come and go as you like. But please be respectful if we are asleep!

7. If you lose a key or damage/lose any of our household items, we will ask you to pay for replacement or repair, as appropriate.

Smoking Rules

Your host is a non-smoker.

Smoking is not allowed.

How do I book?

Contact the host to check their availability and ask them any questions you have about staying with them. Once the host confirms they’re available for your dates, you can complete your booking.
