This was our last stop in Cuba and we didn't find the same warm welcome and hospitality we found in other locations with other families. The young couple running this place have a two month old baby which probably explains a lot - we felt the mother had lost interest, which is understandable and her husband was not around very much.
The rooms were not as attractive as others we stayed in, but I have to say clean and adequate, we were just super lucky in other locations. This was the only place where there was no soap in the bathroom. Arael has spent a lot of effort in making this an attractive home stay, he has built a bar, a nice roof terrace and a plunge pool, however, there was never anyone to serve us a drink and in the end we just helped ourselves and told them when we left. The plunge pool obviously hadn't been used for some time as it was pretty dirty and empty, shame as this is what had swayed me to book here.
I am sure they will get their enthusiasm back and continue to upgrade their property - I really hope so as Vinales has turned into tourist town and there is a lot of competition.
Well, I don't know where to start - this was my favourite accommodation in Cuba and mainly because Rolando and his sweet wife welcomed us into their home and made us feel like members of the family. Their hospitality was truly wonderful and Rolando even cooked us a splendid four course meal for a very cheap price - we later learned that he is a professional chef. They have two guest rooms, spotlessly clean and also a charming terrace to sit outside and enjoy their plentiful breakfast or an evening feast and a small charming balcony to sit on with a drink and watch the world go by. The location of the accommodation is good as it is only a five minute walk to the street where all the restaurants are. Rolando, his wife Dianelys and their very handsome younger son were absolutely charming and very helpful in making sure we had a memorable experience in the delightful town of Trinidad. I cannot recommend Rolando's enough, this is the place to stay when visiting the area. Thank you Rolando for everything.
Graciela and her charming husband couldn't have been better hosts. They arranged for a classic car to meet us at the airport when we arrived and Juan Carlos (her husband) was there to meet us. We stayed in an apartment that we had to ourselves - two double bedrooms en suite and a lady came each morning to make our breakfast. Graciela and Juan Carlos gave us good information when we arrived on restaurants and what to see and Graciela arrived each morning as we finished breakfast to make sure all was OK and if we needed anything. They are lovely, warm informative people and we were totally charmed by them. The location is also great - easy access to the historic centre but residential enough to have some great restaurants nearby that didn't cater for tourists. Havana is a fantastic city, a really special place with lovely, friendly people. Unbelievably safe and welcoming - go now before it gets spoilt by the loud Americans that are now being allowed in and stay with Graciela; the perfect hostess.
Although we greatly enjoyed our stay, this is not really a home stay - it is more of a boutique style guest house / hotel. The owner lives in Italy and has spent a lot of time and trouble in making this into a very slick operation from presenting her guests with a selection of tours and hotel packages on arrival. She has a manager who does a sales speech on arrival over a free fruit drink - this was not what we were expecting. We did opt for a hotel package of breakfast, cocktail and dinner for 22 CUCs, which was good value but it changed the whole feel of our stay.
We had dinner on the rooftop with a lovely view of the sunset over the bay, but is was served by a waiter in a long sleeved white shirt and bow tie - not a home stay with a Cuban family. The rooms are lovely and a lot of thought has gone into them; flat screen TV, air conditioning and fridge with drinks price list, however the foam mattress was uncomfortable and very hot.
I do not regret staying here, but after having stayed in other locations with delightful Cuban families, this wasn't the experience we were looking for and when the owner called the waiter to pick up her napkin that had blown onto the floor, we knew this not the Cuban experience we wanted.
