Kelly and her children are very welcoming and kind people. The neighbourhood is charming and the he room was very comfortable, very spacious to store our bags. We felt like home. I would like to emphasise Kelly‘s predisposition to help with anything you need. Hope to come back very soon! :)

Kelly was an AMAZING host, super kind and welcoming, she and her dogs opened their hearts and home to me. The location is quite nice as well, if you're after an escape from the hustle and bustle of downtown, their neighborhood is lovely and quiet. Internet and cell service are a bit spotty, but that seems to be the case all over the more suburban parts of NSW. The room and home were beautiful and clean, with a small kitchen containing enough tools to cook anything really. I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

I agree with a lot of what the previous reviews say, so I'll just add a few updates.
Probably the most important update is that there is now working Wi-Fi!
I found the chickens to be quiet, but the walls in the property are very thin so if there's an inconsiderate guest in the next room, then noise might be a problem. I was lucky that my fellow guests were quiet, clean and considerate. There was still a cockroach problem during my stay, but it looked like the situation was improving. Hopefully that continues.
I stayed during the winter. As described, there is no heating or cooling in the property. For me, this was fine during the day but some nights got very cold. The taps and shower have reliable hot water though which makes a big difference on a cold morning!

Kelly is a courteous host and the granny flat has its own kitchenette, bathroom, and three furnished bedrooms that are each pretty spacious. Inside, things are tidy and simple. A portable electric cooktop and some other basic kitchenware are provided. She also hires cleaners to come every two weeks which helps keep it clean. Her children are very respectful and her dogs love getting some pets and attention.
However, be aware that there is very limited Wi-Fi, if any, in the flat. This wouldn’t be as big of an issue if there was cell service, which is practically nonexistent inside. Things like checking your email and making calls are very difficult.
The location is not great without a car—look into public transit options and your commute from Matraville. It’s pretty residential and not super dense or walkable.
Also, there is no AC, which can get frustrating in the summer heat. You will have to get used to avoiding the dog poop when entering and exiting the house everyday and cockroaches in the flat at night. No need for an alarm clock because the chickens will wake you up every morning without fail.

thanks for the review - we are updating the WiFi this week, putting in a hardline into the flat with it's own Modem - which should fix the internet dilemma.
The roaches would not have been so bad, if you guys had of taken your rubbish out often as asked, piling up rubbish on the kitchen bench is always going to attract bugs in Australia; regarding the heat - you came to Australia in summer and there is nothing on my profile that suggest I have AC, we don't have it anywhere on the property because the whole house is insulated and there is often a sea breeze that cools the place down, the heat would not have been so bad if you had have followed the guidelines for keeping the place cool, and fans were provided as requested.
Closest bus stop is a 5min walk for my 5 year old and 10 min walk to the local supermarket, so I'm not sure what you mean by not being walkable as there is a foot path and the area is super safe - no we are not in the CBD, but most things are a short walk away, there is also plenty of parking for those who choose to have a car while here and a bike is often available to borrow.
I do apologise if you hit a dog landmine - these are picked up at dawn and dusk, the same time we attend to the chickens - where you had access to free eggs on request. if you had of followed the guidelines for keeping the place cool, this would have also kept the chook noise out.
