Rencontrez Isabelle
I was in Cuba for 1 month and the first 2 weeks I lived in Isabelle's home. For me it was a great and authentic experience. When I arrived I was welcomed by Isabelle and her son Nayller, who normally lives in France, and they were very polite and cosy. Just after the arrival Nayller and his husband were so kind to follow me to the place to exchange money, and I felt very lucky that they even wanted to show me a little around in the neighborhood, and they gave me advices for e.g. where to take the taxi collectivo etc.
The rooms are alright, it is clean and the two rooms downstairs shares the same bathroom, and for me it was not a problem at all. There are windows in the rooms which faces the kitchen and hallway where there is no roof. I think they have decorated their home very beautifully, and it is a typical house in Havana with high ceiling. Many people book rooms at Isa's home, but because she only has 3 rooms for rent, she will place the other guests nearby in neighbors' or friends' home. It was my impression that the other guest didn't mind that, and they were always welcome in Isa's home to come over for a chat, and also to eat breakfast in her home.
I was very happy that I got to experience New Year's eve in Havana, and more precisely in Isabelle's home. It was a fantastic party with many guest and family members, and literally everyone was welcome, and everyone was partying and dancing in the house and in the street - also with all the neighbors. During the evening Isabelle had also arranged a small live band outside their house, and it was a beautiful atmosphere with lots of dancing and happiness in the street. I would love to experience New Year's Eve again in this home.
It is true that Isabelle doesn't really speak any English, but I saw it as a great opportunity to practice my Spanish. Otherwise her husband is able to speak a little English if you don't speak one word of Spanish (or make sure to bring a dictionary). The house is located in Vedado, close to the University, Hotels and Malecón, and main streets. It is also near to the street San Lazaro where it is easy to take the cheap taxi collectivo to Centre or Habana Vieja (Old Havana), and you will arrive in 5-10 minutes. It is also possible to walk to Habana Vieja (Ca. 20-30 minutes). I liked to live in Vedado because it was less touristic compared to Habana Vieja.
All in all I had such a wonderful time in Cuba, and living in Isabelle's home sure contributed to that experience, and Isabelle and all her family members were very warmhearted towards me during my 2 weeks stay there.
Me and my friend stayed 2 nights at Yobani and Nela's home. They were so kind and very helpful hosts. The room is good, and it has a fine balcony. Every morning we ate breakfast on the terrace with a splendid view over Trinidad. The breakfast itself was also very delicious with eggs, bread, cheese, ham, fruit and fresh made fruit-juice. I think Yobany's home is located quite central and it is near to everything in town. Next time I return to Trinidad I would definitely stay in Yobani's home again. Thank you so much for a very lovely stay!
