Hi students!
My family & I are looking to open our home to students who are interested in seeing Vancouver and all it has to offer. We are a very mixed, young family. We consist of two adults and a young boy, 7 years old. We come from different backgrounds and like to expose ourselves to all different cultures. Here is a breakdown of our family:
Allie (myself) - My mother is Filipino and my father is Ukrainian.
Devon (my partner) - His mother is Scottish/Ukrainian and his father is Chinese.
Nathaniel (our son) - I am his mother and his father is Jamaican.
That being said, a lot of the cuisine we make at home reflect our different backgrounds. We love trying new things and discovering the beautiful city we live in. A lot of our family activities include: the beach, parks, community centres, city events, Cultus Lake, Waterslides/Pool, Hikes, Out-of-city trips (Whistler, Seattle, Kelowna), and Granville Island. We are a little younger than your average family so it would be easier to find common ground for activities :)
Our home is very comfortable and we have all the basic amenities. We are close to public transit and right across from a park located in South Vancouver. It is a bus ride away from downtown and less than 10 minute drive to Langara College. We are also a bus away from Marine Drive Station to the Canada line. We are a few blocks away from local shops and stores. Lots and lots of food close by! We are in the middle of repainting our walls so don't mind the paint marks in the photos :p
The room itself is quite spacious. It comes with a single bed and a desk. It has a mini walk-in closet with room for a dresser inside - this can be discussed on what suits your needs best. It's minimally decorated to make it feel like home. The room does come with a washroom that may be used by our son in the evening, but he can use our en-suite if you prefer to really have your privacy.
Our rules are very simple. We only expect respect when it comes to living in our home. Here is what we do expect:
* If you do choose to have guests over, letting us know ahead of time is always appreciated.
* Please clean up after yourself around the house - this includes dishes. What you choose to do in your room is all up to you! We just ask that you try to keep things tidy. This also includes the washroom.
* You are free to use all condiments and amenities of the house, but please let us know before hand when there is something about to run out! Communication is always best.
Other than that, we will have a good time! Again, the rules are very simple and we aren't too strict on anything as long as it is communicated to us. We can't wait to hear from you ^_^ !!

About the Area
Our house is located in the south side of Vancouver in a nice and quiet family-oriented neighborhood. You have the option of the #8 bus that takes you downtown which is a 5 minute walk. The other option is the #100 that takes you to Marine Drive Skytrain station which is also a less than 5 minute walk. There are many shops and restaurants that are just a short bus ride away - or walk if you prefer!

House Rules
We are very reasonable and don't have much rules other than to keep your bedroom tidy and no partying - without permission.
Smoking Rules
Your host is a non-smoker.

How do I book?
Contact the host to check their availability and ask them any questions you have about staying with them. Once the host confirms they’re available for your dates, you can complete your booking.
When do I pay?
Once a host confirms they're available, you can go ahead and pay the 15% booking fee (maximum of 250 $£€ for longer term bookings) using a choice of payment methods: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro, Laser, JCB & PayPal (not available in certain countries). You then pay your host on arrival or as stated by your host on their profile and agreed by you on booking. Please be cautious if a host requests advance payment if its not included on their profile. Our hosts have been advised that if they wish to request advance payment they must make this explicit in their profile. We do not recommend the use of Money gram or Western Union.
When can I share my contact details?
Host and Guest email address, phone number and home address will be exchanged in a confirmation email sent to both immediately after a booking is completed. It's against our policy for Guests and Hosts to exchange direct contact details via our messaging system.
