5 Must Visit Travel Destinations for 2018

Another year, another excuse to explore! Not sure where to wander in 2018? Based on our insider knowledge (we are a travel company after all), we've put together the ultimate list of where to go in 2018. Some are our old favourites, others are newbies and for good reason. Dive into the best destinations of 2018.

1 Malta

Best for: culture, beaches, nightlife, language learning

Malta tops our list and is an ideal destination year round. A beautiful island right in the middle of the Mediterranean, home to stunning coastlines, buzzing nightlife, many familiar sites to Game of Thrones fans, and Valetta being the European Capital of Culture in 2018 are just some of the many reasons you need to visit Malta. The amazing weather, 300 days of sunshine per year also make it the best destination to learn English with many language schools to choose from.

2 Sri Lanka

Best for: adventure, beaches, wildlife

Just as King Solomon was lured to Sri Lanka, so too are a new wave of discerning travellers in search of enchantment, adventure and beauty. Swaddled in a deep history of Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, Arabian, Portuguese, Dutch and latterly British influences, this small island has an unimaginable collection of attractions to satisfy every traveller’s taste: coconut fringed beaches to plummeting cliffs and fertile plantations of exotic fruits, tea, rubber trees and rice paddies, whale watching, yoga classes by the beach in tranquil Tallalla, and surfing in Arugam Bay on the east coast. Adam’s Peak mountain at a staggering 2,224 metres is a life changing trek that stirs the soul. With so much to offer by such generous people, Sri Lanka will never disappoint and will stay with you long after your unique adventures.

3 Mexico

Best for beaches, food

Our advice is forget the beach resorts along the Caribbean coastline and venture off the normal tourist routes. Worried about safety away from confines of well know resort towns? Don't be, just follow advice of your homestay hosts and local authorities and you will be fine. More than half a million British tourists visited Mexico in 2016 and most visits were trouble-free. Have you watched Rick Stein's Road to Mexico? He retraced a road trip he made in 1968 from California and it's given us a real urge to get to Mexico right now.  Besides delicious food,t here is so much to see and do in this fascinating country. Top tip, visit Guadalajara and the nearby land of Tequila. Who knew it's made from the agave plant?

4 Cuba

Best for beaches, culture, architecture

Ok so if you've been following homestay.com you'll know we are slightly obsessed with all things Cuba, but we just can't leave it off the list. Daily, our homestays guests are sharing amazing images from the Carnaval in Santiago de Cuba to the beautiful white sandy beaches. Cuba is now a very tourist friendly destination with the Cubans being our most welcoming hosts.

5 Spain

Best for culture

Ok, wondering why Spain the second most popular international tourist destination is on our list? Well, we've a new found fondness for this wonderful country from our hosts and Eva our Homestay HQ Spaniard. There are so many exciting festivals happening throughout Spain, like Carnaval in Tenerife in February, Santa Semana in Seville at Easter, feast of Virgen de la Paloma in Madrid in August.
