Enric, and his adorable pug Rufi live in a bright apartment in the San Antoni neighbourhood of Barcelona. Enric works as a marketing manager for an online fashion company and has lived in the Catalan capital all his life. His home in the Eixample district of the city is the perfect location to get out and explore the architecture that the city is famous for. When he’s not working or hosting guests, Enric likes to take Rufi for walks, get out and play some football or basketball, and has recently taken up surfing in his spare time.

I spoke to Enric about why he decided to become a host with Homestay.com and what a guest can expect when they come to stay with him.

Why do you like being a host?

For the simple reason that I can get to know other people and cultures that are different to my own. I want to help those who are new to my city to feel at home and to see Barcelona in all its glory.

How long have you been a host for?

I’ve only just begun hosting! My first guest arrived and stayed for five nights with me.

Why did you decide to become a host?

I became a host for two reasons really: the first was to help out with the cost of my rent and my day-to-day expenses. The second was that I wanted to host short term guests in my home rather than a long term lodger. I wanted to meet people who didn’t know the city so I could help them by showing them around all the magical places there are to discover in this city.

What do you like most about the neighbourhood you live in?

I love how central the area I live in is, the atmosphere from the people in the street in San Antoni, it feel familiar but cosmopolitan at the same time. There’s such a variety of modern places to eat, have a beer or a coffee and shops to look around in. This feeling of openness in the neighbourhood really speaks to me.

Tell me something that every traveller to Barcelona should see or do.

Don’t have a plan, just walk aimlessly and get lost in Barcelona. Head to the beach and have a beer from one of the local stands nearby and of course make sure to visit the Modernist architecture.
