About the Homestay
A stay at the unique and historic home in a friendly family environment is an unforgettably boutique Western Australian experience. Built in 1896 as a hotel, and now a private residence since 2004, apart from being a hotel, has also been a private school for girls as well as the childhood home of Governor General Sir Paul Hasluck. The talented pianist, David Helfgott . (as portrayed in the movie Shine) was also a regular visitor. With high ceilings and wooden floorboards the guest wing of this character house offers 4 bedrooms to choose from. Yours will be an enjoyable experience to remember. Just a 3 minute walk (300mtrs) from the main train line (Success Hill Station on the Midland-Perth-Fremantle Line), a short stroll from the beautiful Swan River and historic Guildford, and right on the Swan Valley wine rim including the famous boutique local producers such as Margaret River Chocolate Factory, and Windara Honey farm and Whitemans Park which includes the highly acclaimed Caverhsham Wildlife Park there is always something to emerse the senses in.
Ours is a family environment, with grown up children that stay at the house on occasion. English is the only language spoken in the home. As the mother of children for many years, I can help you get set up with everything you need, make sure you are comfortable and confident to get around and then give you lots of independence to explore the area.
All rooms have mod cons including air conditioning and FREE wifi, and include a comfortable bed, writing desk, clothing space and linen and towels provided. There are 4 bedrooms available which share their own guest bathroom. (Please provide your own toiletries e.g. soap, shampoo, toothpaste)
These four bedrooms of the west wing are a separate area of the house and have a pool table which guests are welcome to use.
All guests are free to use the kitchen to prepare your own meals. Refrigeration is available for your food. A clothes washing machine (free of charge) and clothes line amenities are provided.
(Just ask and I will show you how). A bicycle is available to allow you to explore the beautiful surrounds via our new cycle path, (see 'Trails WA' for further information) and signs guide you around historic Guildford and Swan River precinct and the Swan Valley Heritage Trail will take you past our vineyards. (see 'Experience Perth.com')
Please don't hesitate to send a message to ask any questions that you may like to know!
Looking forward to hosting you in our historic home among the gum trees.

About the Area
Our house is located in a leafy secluded part of Perth on a quiet street near Kelly Park. The early morning air is filled with the chirping sound of the many birds who live in the big surrounding trees. Kookaburras, colourful parrots, willy wagtails, the baby butcher bird, magpies, ravens, peewee's, honey eaters and wattle birds have all made their homes nearby. The cafe strip at Guildford is a pleasant 20 minute walk away in one direction and Bassendean Village with it's Supermarket and Dome Coffee Shop and other eatery's is an even shorter walk. Success Hill Train Station is just 300 metres away and with trains every 10 minutes, it is very easy to access Midland and the many busses or Perth City and beyond to Fremantle. Take and early morning stroll past family homes to the Success Hill Park and the beautiful Swan River with it's pontoon which truly is just a 5 minute walk from home. A fairly new cycle track also links historic Guildford/Bassendean area to surrounding areas.
